Call for Hosting 2026
Higher Education Learning Methodologies and Technologies Online
Key Aspects of the Conference
The Theme
Helmeto focuses on digital teaching in Higher Education, structured around two main tracks: one dedicated to teaching methodologies and the other to technologies. These two elements are the core of the conference. Each year, a call for special tracks is launched, typically resulting in 6–7 additional thematic tracks being added to the two main ones.
The History
Helmeto was first held in 2019 in Novedrate (website). Subsequent editions were hosted as follows:
- 2nd Edition: Bari (2020, UNIBA, www.uniba.it/it/evenc-alluniversita/anno-2020/helmeto-2020)
- 3rd Edition: Pisa (2021, UNIPI, sites.google.com/unipi.it/helmeto2021)
- 4th Edition: Palermo (2022, UNIPA, helmeto2022.unipa.it)
- 5th Edition: Foggia (2023, UNIFG, helmeto2023.altervista.org)
- 6th Edition: Rome (2024, Uniecampus/Unipegaso, www.helmeto2024.it)
- 7th Edition: Napoli (2025, Università di Napoli, www.helmeto.it/2025-edition).
Proceedings are published by Springer in a dedicated series. The 2024 proceedings are currently in publication. Typically, there are 110–150 submissions, with 90–120 accepted.
The Organization
Helmeto usually takes place in the second half of September, with 110–150 participants in recent editions. Sessions are spread over three days (starting at 2 PM on the first day and ending at 1 PM on the third day). Generally, one room accommodating 130–150 participants is sufficient for plenary sessions, with one or two smaller rooms used for parallel sessions. There are typically no more than three parallel sessions.
The conference usually features two or three keynote speakers. Since last year, a doctoral consortium has been added, aimed at Ph.D. students and prospective candidates.
The conference language is English, with approximately 30% of submissions and participants coming from abroad. The call for papers requires the submission of a 2-page extended abstract that, after a first round of revision, is published in a book of abstracts and presented at the Conference. Authors are given the possibility to extend their abstract into a 12-pages full paper that, after a further round of revision, may be published in the Communications in Computer and Information Science series of Springer (indexed in Scopus). No publication fees required by the publisher.
The hosting venue provides a local organizing team, which participates in the entire conference planning and distributes responsibilities across various committees (communication, publications, track management, etc.).
Helmeto is generally self-sustaining through registration fees (approximately €200) and sponsorships. If the hosting venue offers its spaces at no cost, it facilitates additional sponsorships by the host institution or the Permanent Steering Committee of Helmeto. The Permanent Steering Committee collaborates closely with local organizers, providing procedures and templates necessary for the conference organization. Organizers are required to submit an operational proposal along with a budget.
